Combined Cycle Overview

Colfax Pumps and Systems in Power Generation Applications

HOW A COMBINED CYCLE POWER PLANT OPERATES:

A combined cycle power plant produces electricity in two stages.  The first stage is a simple cycle combustion turbine plant.  Natural gas or a high grade fuel such as aviation or diesel fuel is injected and burnt inside the combustor of a gas turbine.  The combustion gases drive the rotation of the turbine and the coupled generator to produce electricity.

In step two‚ the hot gases leaving the gas turbine passes into a boiler to produce steam.  This process is called a HRSG (Heat Recover Steam Generator).  The steam then rotates the steam turbine and coupled generator to produce Electricity.  Combined cycle power plants can reach 60% efficiency.

COLFAX CAPABILITIES:

Since combined cycle includes features of both combustion and steam‚ engineers turn to Colfax brands to handle a wide variety of pumping and fluid handling requirements for mission critical applications.  Colfax brands  Allweiler‚ IMO‚ IMO AB‚ Warren‚ Zenith and Tushaco all supply product into combined cycle power plants with a product offering that includes three screw pumps‚ two screw pumps‚ crescent internal gear pumps‚ progressing cavity pumps‚ and centrifugal pumps as well as lubrication oil service products such as PurLube Conditioner and the Oil Mist.
